MJOTD: Math Joke of the Day

Hey guys! So I think everyone could use a math joke for a good laugh, so here’s today’s joke!

A math student is pestered by a classmate who wants to copy his homework assignment. The student hesitates, not only because he thinks it's wrong, but also because he doesn't want to be sanctioned for aiding and abetting.
His classmate calms him down: "Nobody will be able to trace my homework to you: I'll be changing the names of all the constants and variables: a to b, x to y, and so on."
Not quite convinced, but eager to be left alone, the student hands his completed assignment to the classmate for copying.
After the deadline, the student asks: "Did you really change the names of all the variables?"
"Sure!" the classmate replies. "When you called a function f, I called it g; when you called a variable x, I renamed it to y; and when you were writing about the log of x+1, I called it the timber of x+1..."

Hahahahhaha! I hope you guys liked this joke. Look forward to more in the future. 8)

Hunger Games: A Future Reality?

Hey everyone! So I recently started reading the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, and I must say I AM HOOKED! For those who are not readers or have been under a rock for past few months, I will begin this blog post with a short insert about the Hunger Games trilogy:

Summary: In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before -- and survival. – Scholastic

These books highlights the effects of an overly-powerful government which controls everything from the food that you eat to where you are allowed to go as well as what you do for a living. Suzanne Collins has created a world where even the mere thought of such a world gives me chills. Having been told from the start about the freedoms and liberties we, as American Citizens, are guaranteed, this world is even more terrifying.  Let’s be realistic though. Is there a chance that a world like Panem might exist in the future? Should we be worried? I know everyone who has read these books has thought about this!  In my opinion though corruption is now wide-spread, socialism at such an extent has been long forgotten. The effects of such a government have been already proven to be non-working, and these types of government rarely last long before a revolt is began as shown in the 2nd book of the Hunger Games, “Catching Fire”. If you have not read these books yet, I highly recommend that you do if you are into reading about dystopian societies. I am currently read the 3rd book and I’m trying to read it more slowly since it is the last book in the series and I really don’t want it to end. Let me know what you think about these books!

"Are you going to Heaven?" Quiz

With a gleaming smile on my face, I happily made my ways towards the Walmart exit door. A man wearing blue levy’s and a flannel shirt walked towards me and with an urgent voice dressed in a heavy cowboy accent, said “here you go,” and handed me a small booklet. Without thinking, I mindlessly accepted his gift and thanked him as I continued my way out. As I walked towards my red Honda accord, I looked down to see what the booklet contained. In big bold letters, the words “Are you going to Heaven Quiz” were printed across the top. Anger gushed upwards as I realized what this was about. Unable to control my anger, horrid words escaped my pure mouth. I knew things had been too quiet recently. Not one word had been said. Not one. Though I have been bombarded with words such as “terrorist” and “infidel” and phrases like “Someone call security” or “Where your bombs at?” these acts of ignorance always get to me. I hurriedly got in my car, trying my hardest to keep tears at bay. I started my car and drove back to a friend’s house to continue working on a big project. As I drove, I asked myself “Why me!?” Of all people, why had he chosen to give ME the booklet? Of course the answer was unquestionable. With a headscarf covering my hair, I am the perfect target for people who are unaware of whom we Muslims really are. I’m sure all of you have had similar experiences and have dealt with it in your own ways. Now that I think back, I wish I had approached it differently. I have thought of many different ways of dealing with this situation that would be appropriate, and I feel you guys should be well-equipped for the next encounter you are approached by someone attempting to “enlighten” you.

WAYS TO FIGHT BACK
  1.  Fight fire with fire! When they hand you a booklet with bible verses or a DVD with “spirit lessons,” whip out a bible verse and they will surely back down. Do you need an example? Roman 2:1 says “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.” And then say “Are you judging me?” and walk away. J
  2.   Hand them a booklet of your own. MAKE SURE to add every verse about judging that you can find from the bible! They will hopefully get the message?
  3.  Do as Mahatma Gindhi. Just smile, thank them and walk away. Sometimes, taking the less-violate way gets the message across more clearly.
  4.  Confront them but without showing your anger. Remember to smile no matter how hard it is.

Of course, my ideal chose of weapon would be the last, but c’mon! How funny would it be if I made my own booklet and gave it to the next person who did this!? Pretty funny! But I would be going down to their level and that is not a proper way of dealing with this type of situation. So please disregard the second choose.

Who am I?

This will be my first blog post, so I decided I would let the readers know a little bit about myself. I am currently a senior at my local high school. Number 4 in my graduating class. WOHOOO!! I came here to America when I was 7 years old, and I have lived here since. I was born in Sweden, but raised in Pakistan. I am a BIG bookworm! I read anything and everything (as long as it's appropriate of course).  I love to watch "Big Bang Theory." C'mon! Who doesn't love to watch physicists argue about whether Loop Quantum Gravity Theory or String Theory is an acceptable theory? (Episode 2:The Codpiece Topology in case you are wondering). I love waking up at 3am to watch tennis players battle it out on the other side of the world. Whose my favorite player? Novak Djokovic of course! I'm sure you guys are wondering why I have decided to name my blog "Liberation Station." Many of you know that most people will associate Muslim women with oppression, but this is not true. We are as free as it gets and I want to show my blog readers that we are not some unknown creatures that do only as they are told by the men in their lives or that take whatever our husbands or fathers or brothers as true and don't express our own thoughts. All of these presumptions are inaccurate and I want to show you guys that. I will attempt to blog and express my thoughts on a regular interval and if you have any questions for me, feel free to message me. :)
